How to Copy Metadata Between Images in 3 Steps

01

Choose the source

Select the image with the details you need; check which fields the file actually contains.

02

Choose target and mode

Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP target, then sync standard fields or clone the original EXIF block.

03

Create and compare the copy

Select Copy Metadata, download the new file and reopen it to compare copied fields and GPS.

What do you need?Choose in the toolCheck the copy
Copy capture details or authorshipUse Sync standard fields and select only the groups you need. Source GPS is not selected by default.Read the date, settings, authorship and GPS in the new file; existing target GPS may remain.
Keep target-only EXIF fieldsIn sync mode, enable Merge and preserve target-only metadata. When off, target EXIF is replaced with supported standard fields.Compare copied source fields and any target-only fields you intended to keep.
Copy the original EXIF blockUse Clone full original EXIF when both images are JPG, PNG or WebP and the source has EXIF. It also copies GPS and Maker Notes when present.Open the image to check display orientation and location; source EXIF may describe a different device or image size.

Which source and target formats work?

Standard-field sync can read JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, HEIC/HEIF or AVIF sources when the parser supports the file; the target must be JPG, PNG or WebP. Original EXIF cloning requires both files to use those writable formats. Each file is limited to 50 MB.

Download and check the new file

The tool reads the output metadata before showing Download; this does not compare every field or check how the image displays. Download the copy, open it to check orientation, then use View Image EXIF to compare transferred fields and any remaining GPS. The source and original target files are not overwritten.

When copying fails or the result looks wrong

No fields to copy
Inspect the source and select a group with actual data. Clone requires an original EXIF block; XMP or ICC alone is not enough.
Accented text or GPS fails
Standard-field sync currently writes basic Latin text in EXIF. If GPS is selected, the source needs valid latitude and longitude; deselect GPS and retry if needed.
The image rotates or details do not match
Source Orientation can change how the target is displayed even though pixels are not re-encoded. Compare the fields you need; use sync instead of clone when only a few fields matter.
The target cannot be written
Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP target under 50 MB. Damaged files and some container variants may not accept EXIF; keep the original to retry.

Where are the two images processed?

The copy workflow reads the source, creates a target copy and prepares the download in your browser; image content and GPS are not sent to an image-processing API. The page still uses general visit analytics. Copied metadata does not verify an image’s origin or ownership.
