How to Edit Image EXIF in 3 Steps
Choose an image
Choose the JPG, PNG or WebP to update and load existing supported values into the form.
Edit fields
Change the capture date, authorship, settings or both latitude and longitude when updating GPS.
Create and check the copy
Select Create Edited Image, download the new file and reopen it to check the fields you changed.
Choose the fields to edit
| What needs changing? | Use these fields | Check the new copy |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong capture date | Date taken; enter the date and time you know are correct. | Open the downloaded file and read Date Taken again. |
| Missing authorship | Artist, Copyright or Image description. | Check the fields you entered; metadata does not verify ownership. |
| Change or remove location | Enter both Latitude and Longitude; clear both to remove GPS. | Review the GPS group before sharing. |
| Wrong settings or orientation | Device, lens, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, focal length or Orientation. | Read EXIF again; changing Orientation does not rotate image pixels. |
What happens to the image file?
The tool writes the EXIF fields in the form to a same-format JPG, PNG or WebP copy. Image pixels are not re-encoded, but an image viewer may display it differently if you change the Orientation tag. TIFF, HEIC/HEIF and AVIF are view-only.
Check the new copy before using it
After creating the image, the tool reads the file again before offering the download. Download the copy, then open it in View Image EXIF to compare the fields you changed. The original image is not overwritten.
If the edited image cannot be created
- Accented text is rejected
- Text EXIF fields currently accept basic Latin characters only. Use unaccented text or another metadata editor that supports Unicode.
- GPS is invalid
- Enter both coordinates: latitude from -90 to 90 and longitude from -180 to 180. To remove GPS, clear both fields.
- This format cannot be edited
- Only JPG, PNG and WebP can produce edited copies. TIFF, HEIC/HEIF and AVIF are view-only when the file can be read.
- The file cannot be read or written
- Try the original image under 50 MB in a supported format. Some file structures cannot be written safely; keep the original and try another file.
Where is the image processed?
The EXIF editor reads the image, writes metadata to a copy and prepares the download in your browser; image content and GPS coordinates are not sent to an image-processing API. The page still uses general visit analytics.
