How to Compare Two Images in 3 Steps
Choose image A
Select the first image with details you want to check, up to 50 MB.
Choose image B
Select the second image, up to 50 MB; the files can use different formats.
Choose scope and review
Read fields that differ or are missing in A/B; use All fields to review matches too.
Choose what to compare
| What to check | Choose in the tool | Read the result |
|---|---|---|
| Date, camera, authorship or GPS | Use Transferable fields (the default) for standard fields supported by the metadata copier. | Compare both values side by side. Matching GPS does not prove it was copied. |
| Readable EXIF and GPS fields | Select EXIF / GPS to include EXIF and Maker Notes recognized by the reader. | Check fields present in only one image, especially after cloning EXIF; some proprietary tags may not be readable. |
| File details and other groups | Select All technical metadata for every field the tool can read, including file details, XMP or ICC when present. | Different formats can have different container fields; focus on the groups relevant to your question. |
What do matching, different and missing mean?
The Different or missing filter hides matches; All fields shows them too. Its count includes unequal values and fields found only in A or B. Fields absent from both files do not appear in the default scope. The result compares readable data; it does not verify an image’s origin or creator.
Which images can you compare?
Choose two JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, HEIC/HEIF or AVIF files, each up to 50 MB. The formats may differ, but some TIFF, HEIC or AVIF variants and proprietary fields depend on parser support. This page reads and displays a comparison; it does not create a new image.
When the result is sparse or unclear
- No differences appear
- Show All fields to review matches, or switch to EXIF / GPS or All technical metadata. The default scope only shows supported standard fields present in at least one image.
- An expected field is missing
- Open each file in View Image EXIF to see what the parser can read. Metadata may have been removed or stored in an unsupported tag.
- Many differences across formats
- Narrow the scope to Transferable fields or EXIF / GPS to set aside container details. Check the capture or GPS values you need rather than relying on the count alone.
- A file cannot be read
- Check that the file opens in an image app, has a supported format and is under 50 MB; try a JPG/PNG/WebP copy if a TIFF, HEIC or AVIF variant cannot be parsed.
Where are the images compared?
The comparison reads both files and shows results in your browser; image content and GPS are not sent to an image-processing API. The page still uses general visit analytics. Neither original is changed, and matching metadata does not prove a shared origin.
