Compress WebP Images Online
Recompress still WebP by quality or a KB/MB limit. Compare size and detail before download; if the new file is no smaller, the original WebP is kept.

Choose images
Choose up to 30 still WebP images; JPG, PNG, GIF and SVG are also accepted for WebP output.
Choose a setting
Keep WebP output and choose By quality (10–100%) or By target size (KB/MB per image).
Compare and download
Compare size and detail with the source, then download WebP files or a ZIP. Check motion if the source is animated.
Choose a setting for still WebP
This page preselects WebP output. For an existing WebP, start each attempt from the original; re-encoding can change detail. An 80% quality setting is an encoder input, not a promise of 80% file-size savings.
| You need | Choose in the tool | Check the result |
|---|---|---|
| Reduce a still WebP’s file size | Keep WebP output and try By quality from 80%; lower it if the image remains usable. | Compare KB and inspect text, textures and gradients. If re-encoding is no smaller, the original WebP is kept. |
| A cutout with transparency | Keep WebP output; raise quality if soft edges or shadows are affected. | View the download on light and dark backgrounds to check edges, colors and transparency. |
| Meet a KB/MB limit | Select By target size, enter a limit for each image and keep WebP output. | Check each file’s reached/not reached status. A very low limit may remain unreachable after quality is reduced. |
When the original WebP is kept
If re-encoding is no smaller, the original WebP is downloaded instead of a larger file. An original already below the KB/MB limit is also not re-encoded. Its existing metadata or animation may therefore remain; check the result notice to see when the original was used.
100% quality and animated WebP
The 100% setting still uses the browser WebP encoder; it is not a pixel-identical lossless mode. Re-encoding an animated WebP produces a still image, while a retained original may still move. Open the download before replacing an image on your site.
If WebP does not shrink or looks different
- File size does not decrease
- The image may already be optimized. Try lower quality from the original and compare detail; keep the original if the saving is not useful.
- The KB/MB limit is not reached
- Raise the limit or use Image Resizer to reduce pixel dimensions before compressing. This page keeps the original width and height.
- Transparency edges or motion change
- Raise quality and inspect edges on two backgrounds. To retain animated WebP, avoid a re-encoded result; keep the original or use a workflow that supports animated WebP.
Where are the images processed?
Compression reads images and creates downloads in the browser without sending image content to an KitoTool compression API. The page still makes general requests and loads a library for ZIP. Originals on your device are unchanged; re-encoded files may omit metadata, while retained originals may keep it.
