How to Test Your Keyboard

01

Start a test session

Select Start testing so the page can listen for physical keyboard events.

Read the detected key and code

Key colors and position codes

Purple means a key is held; green means the browser received an event. “Last detected key” shows the character or function the system interpreted, while a code such as KeyA identifies the key position. The character may differ from the printed label when you change keyboard layout.

Test a key combination

“Simultaneous” is the highest number of positions the page saw held at once, not a guaranteed keyboard specification. Try a combination you actually use and check that each key lights up.

If a key does not light up as expected

Key stays gray
Click the test area again, press the key on its own and check the event history. For Fn, system keys or keys missing from this layout, check with another app too.
Key appears held
Release it and look for a keyup event in the history. If the window lost focus, the page clears held state; retry in the same tab.
A combo misses a key
Test each key alone, then hold that combination and check the purple keys and Simultaneous count. The result only reflects events received by the browser in that attempt.

Key history during the test

The page displays key characters/functions and keeps up to 12 recent events in tab memory; Reset clears the history. Avoid typing passwords or sensitive text while testing. The tool script does not send key events to a processing API.
